A bit of a delay...

We haven't posted for a while. Not quite how we planned it. (Daily postings, five pages each ;-) ) Although it is so much fun writing together, we still have to get used to it and find time. We hope to do better now!

Not much happened during the last few days, which is great actually. It's freezing cold in London by now but very sunny and nice.

Our computer broke down, we had to order a new one, piece by piece. It would have taken until January next year to get an assembled one (of exactly the kind T. wanted - men...). We managed to assemble the pieces into a working computer. :) Very nice. The only little downer is: our whole flat is chemically contaminated. Whatever they put on the computer pieces: it stinks and makes you feel a bit wobbly. Can't be healthy. Our usually cosy warm flat is now cold - we mean: really cold - from hours of airing. But at least we have a new computer now. Just that we don't want to go near it.

Another event that stole our time and some of little D.'s nerves is the application for a new passport. No problem, you would think. Imagine this: living abroad, you ask your embassy where to come and what to bring. First difficulty: asking. You can find a number to call on the embassy's web page. It takes several afternoons to eventually get through to make an appointment to apply for a new passport. From November 1, the new Euro passport is introduced. The one they take your fingerprints for. (We are not gonna complain about the crazy paranoid idea of including electronic finger prints into your passport. This would blow our blog. ;-) Daft politicians!) Anyway, because of the new computer system that the passport department of your embassy has to install and get used to, they now have opening times from 8.30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Not kidding!
You should be sympathetic. And grateful that they are there for you.

P.S. Finally, little D. got an appointment and applied for her new passport. She feels robbed now. It cost 52 Pounds = 75 Euros = 107 US$.

Congrats on the new computer, sorry about the stink. The older I get the more senstive I get to chemical smells. New (industrial-workplace) carpet is the worse. One more reason I am happy to be working at home.

I hope our government doesn't catch on to the fingerprint idea on the passport. They just finally got around to insisting that everyone have a passport by the end of this year to travel out of the country. A passport in the US cost about $70.00 now. Living in a border state I have heard lots of griping from parents that had to purchase several at once so they can continue to take their children to Canada. Not happy campers.
